  Nicholas A. Price:

Artist Statement:

I work with a spiritual base for the creation of unique art offering universal acceptance and understanding of the message or subject.

My work has no boundaries and this is something I never want applied to me. I believe art for both the public and private domain is of the utmost importance as it nurtures art interest and understanding. I always focus on making art and sculpture that continues to live through the feel of moment or impression of future growth, I want my art to continue to develop as we do.

Art should be for all, regardless of cultural, economic, religious or ethnic origin and I hope my art can create an environment for conversation, objectivity, spirituality and tranquility. There will always be those that have strong opinions on what is and what isn't art, but the fact that they have an opinion at all shows us that we have at least started a dialogue and hopefully bridge voids towards a greater understanding of much more than just art.

2005-2006 – Nicholas Price Is Cleared Hot! – Fine Art Photography Commission/Joint Venture United States Air force

Nicholas A. Price has been granted exclusive and unique access to two major military installations in the United States, in order to photograph the human story behind the men and women in our Air Force.

This is an independently created project that asks the question, "What makes this man or woman put on this uniform for very little pay and potentially, the ultimate sacrifice?"

A project such as Cleared Hot! has never been seen before. A civilian artist – a man who is not in the military, not a member of the press or someone involved with politics granted unprecedented "all access" to every corner of one the largest military installations in the country. Although Price was kindly allowed by The Air Force to maintain complete artistic license, and free reign of the premises does not mean to say this was not undertaken without some significant challenges.

Price shot this entire project using traditional black and white film – without any image manipulation, in 35mm, to produce artistic and professional quality work. Every image is developed and printed by hand.

Nicholas Price Is Cleared Hot! The exhibition and book is artistically presented and includes written accounts by the author regarding military facts related to each of the images, as well as his personal thoughts, often poetically reflecting his very personal awakening.

FAQ's

We get many enquiries from art students, educators, galleries, clients and media.

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the artist Nicholas a. Price.

When and how did you first get into art?

Nicholas Price has always had a passion for the arts in all of its forms. From a child he loved acting and performing on stage, painting, sketching and photography.

His first commercial commission as a fine art photographer came from a business client who had seen many of Nicholas's nature studies and candid photography of the people in his town. He liked Nicholas artistic style and was amused by the young mans innovative ways to be able to conduct business at the age of 14. Enjoying the negotiations with this very serious young man, Nicholas convinced him he was worth the professional fee of $50.00 (the same, if not more than the same fee charged by the local professional photographer who had been in business for many years) to photograph his hardware stores, which in those days were equivalent to today's chain of Home Depot's.

From thereon, he acquired other business and private clients who enjoyed his distinctive photographic style and quality and were quite happy to pay his professional fees.

Still very shy of showing off his other artistic talents, Nicholas continued to paint and sketch for his own pleasure.

It wouldn't be until his move to London in the late 1980's would clients from all over the world first glimpse his other artworks and acquire his paintings and sculptures.

Who influenced you as an artist?

Nicholas Price has never been influenced by the work of other artists although some people are always comparing his works to Picasso or Monet.

His work reflects his very personal experiences from traveling all over the world, his interaction with his fellow human beings regardless of creed, color, race or faith, rich or poor and his personal journeys in life, love, tragedy, humor and turbulence.

Today he is disciplined in painting, photography, writing (mainly poetry), sculpture and jewelry, which he also calls wearable art.

If you look at Nicholas's work collectively, they actually reflect his personality and the other disciplines he creates in.

His paintings reflect his aura and spirit. The broad spectrum of colors is actually influenced by what he sees when he creates his metal sculptures using his heat treatments. This is particularly vivid in his light speed, color and spirit collections.

His photographs reflect his statemental words of his writings. Photography is Nicholas 's medium of choice to document his artistic take on many subjects. Today his archives contain over 21,000 images of nature, still life studies, humanity, street photography, candid photography, natural landscapes and the United states Air force to name a few.

His sculpture's reflects the "child within" and his sense of humor. Many a time his sculpture has been described as whimsical and is purely created from his own imagination. His sculptures and paintings both contain movement and are kinetic in style and application.

His jewelry reflects the energy he captures of the human spirit. The many empowered women he has met in his life and in his travels have always inspired Nicholas and he has tried to reflect this particularly in the very unique Destiny Jewelry Collection that have been collected by many powerful and empowered women around the world.

Why is your work not available in any art gallery?

Nicholas Price is in a position to not need to actively pursue representation of his paintings and sculpture in galleries.

His Artful Soirée's® have been incredibly successful in showcasing his work to collectors and the public and have been featured in many articles including Unique Homes magazine, The Boston Globe, Las Vegas review Journal, The Las Vegas Sun and USA Today.

However, recently, there have been a growing number of clients on the East Coast of America and internationally, particularly in Europe and Asia, where it is necessary, purely from the point of logistics, to have gallery or dealer representation in order to make it easier for clients to view and purchase his work in their local vicinity.

He is currently working on selecting the right galleries and dealer to represent his work and who understands his need for everyone to be able to have access to at least view those works that are not in public domain.

Although Nicholas has experienced great commercial success with his private clientele, his passion lies in establishing himself further by pursuing opportunities to have his art, sculpture and photography in public domain and is doing so through several local and national projects.

Do you also create photographs in color?

Yes. Nicholas Price has a unique collection of works in color. We will be providing an online link to this shortly.

Do you ever shoot in digital formats?

No. Nicholas Price prides himself in preserving and upholding the traditional methods of photography. For his style of photography, digital photography has not been able to compete with the traditional methods in terms of quality of image and reproduction in to print. Also, Nicholas's work is never manipulated with photo shop or other digital methods keeping the images unique and individual.

Do you do commissions?

Yes. Each commission is viewed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for further details.

Why do you only create one of each sculpture or painting?

"I want the person or the public to enjoy the piece as being unique to their private or public environment. I don't provide re-productions no matter how much a client will insist. I don't think it is fair that if a client is paying good money for a piece of my work and which has been created personally by me, should they own something that several other people have the exact copy of.

However, I do occasionally create a series of paintings that allows a client or business to acquire the pieces collectively or allow more than one client to enjoy a similar themed piece without sacrificing the individuality of the work or the value to the client." - Nicholas Price
